Browsing the Browsers

So you want an alternative to IE.... What's the problem, the weekly security holes uncovered, the sheer bloat of the app or you just want to be geeky?

There was a time just a half-dozen years ago when a vast array of Internet Browsers were vying for a piece of the  web action.  Major companies and startups sensed right off that the software one used to negotiate the 'net would be a prime place to get surfers' attention.

Around 1997, Dave Masters gave a rundown of the browsers available back then.  You can still find the page here.  Only a handful of those browsers endure.  Of course, most of the links are no longer active either.  This page describes where each of those stand today.

If you really want to experience one of those archaic browsers, visit: http://browsers.evolt.org where someone has archived every browser ever developed.

Nonetheless, there are still some other browsers available.  Use at your own risk!
