Many sources agree that Pick has a viable future as a database, but
that the access to that Pick data is gradually being granted by a graphical
front-end. Many business users wish to click their way throughout
the workday without having to contend with a text based, keyboard driven
interface when they wish to avail themselves of the Pick Database.
Therefore, it behooves the Pick Programmer to get involved with graphical,
object oriented programming and Open Systems Communications while the elevator
is still near the ground floor (at least in Pick-Based Shops). Having
a firm grounding in PC architecture and concepts also won't fail you as
the text terminals completely give way to fast, fully loaded PC's.
Knowledge of the Pick Data Structure will continue to be a valuable and
rarely found skill as long as it is complemented by a grounding in the
real world of PC's and Networks.
Pick Programmers should also be aware that there are a number of
Pick-like products which s/he will have no difficulty acclimating to.

NOTE: Pick and Pick-like products have adapted the designation 'Multi-Value' to describe the common and unique data structure which they all utilize.
